Your New Year’s resolutions?? They really do matter :)

Hello everyone, happy Wednesday!

It’s the 3rd day of a New Year, how exciting is that?

Here’s why we should embrace New Year’s resolutions instead of fighting them:

1. Resolutions really can work.

Most New Year’s resolutions will be abandoned, it’s true. But some won’t, and can even change your life.

Take some time out to focus on 3 to 5 areas of your life you want to improve on.

It could be a weight loss goal perhaps, finances or perhaps another area you would work on.

2. Taking on too much might be the only way to find changes that really stick.

Maybe overcommitting isn’t such a bad thing.

No, you don’t need to become an entirely different person to succeed at your New Year’s resolutions. Ultimately, you just want to find a few good habits to stick with so you can be healthier long-term.

But how do you discover those habits? How do you fall in love with something new that’s good for you too?

Approach New Year’s as an opportunity to commit 100 percent to something you’re a little uncomfortable with and unaccustomed to:

  • Decide you want to try making healthier food choices.
  • Choose to go for a run every single day because you’d like to move more.
  • Wake up 30 minutes on Saturday/Sunday to get that extra workout in.

3. Working with others to accomplish your resolution together can be crucial to success.

Sure, New Year’s resolutions are popular. Sometimes it feels like everyone wants to lose weight next year.

But don’t let the fact that most people want to lose weight hold you back from actually losing weight. Embrace the popularity of the resolution instead—January is a great time to find others who want to do the same thing you do.

Get your gym buddies together and stay committed and have that accountability with your friends!

7 Healthy Egg Muffins to try this Sunday!

Hello Sunday!

You can have eggs not just for breakfast but any time of the day!

Check out 7 type of egg muffins you can try out! (Source: Sweet Peas and Saffron)

1452d6cde0c1ea081873ec199e777de8

A few important tips for making these egg muffins:

  • make sure you use silicone or parchment liners, as egg muffins are notorious for sticking to paper liners.  You may also have luck with spraying your pan, but sadly, I have not.
  • I find it easiest to mix my egg muffin batter up in a large glass measuring cup…that way you can scoop/pour using the spout and minimize drips
  • these are suuuuper freezer friendly! I would store in a glass storage container like this one for short term (1-2 week) storage and in a large plastic bag like these ones for longer term (up to 3 month) storage.

Base Recipe for egg muffin:

  • omit the flour & baking powder for a lower carb egg muffin
  • swap the all purpose flour for gluten free
  • add a cup of cooked quinoa for a boost of protein or try this recipe
  • these Cottage Cheese Egg Muffins from Closet Cooking are to die for, and another way to add protein to the muffins

Fruit of the week!

Pomegranates (rimonim in Hebrew) are celebrated for their natural powers, color and symbolism. Here’s why you should try one!

Pomegranate_DSWDid you know?

Pomegranates contain antioxidant tannins, which may protect the heart.

Studies show that daily consumption of pomegranate juice may promote normal blood pressure levels and reduce the risk of heart attacks.

Fun Fact Time!:

  • Pomegranates contain glistening, jewel-like seeds called arils that can be pressed into juice. One medium pomegranate yields about 1/2 cup (125 mL) of juice.
  • Pomegranates do not contain cholesterol or saturated fats.
  • Pomegranates are classified as a super fruit.

Don’t take me for pomegranate!
