Why you should try Kickboxing

You may have heard of Active Zone and known us for the flagship Active Kickboxing Fitness Classes conducted at our women only gym. Yet, do you know the extensive benefits of Kickboxing and why you should try it out? If not, we’ll be discussing about that in today’s blogpost so do read on to find out more!

Mentally

When you exercise, your body secretes chemical hormones known as dopamine, serotonin and endorphins which are capable of increasing feelings of joy and happiness, while at the same time lowering any anxious feelings or depressive emotions within you. Additionally, Kickboxing acts as a mood-booster since you can punch and kick your frustrations aside, perhaps after an intensive and stressful day at work! With that said, you’ll definitely enjoy lessons here at our women only gym.

Physically

Evidently, one of the greatest benefits that Kickboxing brings along are changes in your physique as you’ll be able to tone up your body while burning calories and losing fat simultaneously throughout the process. As you engage in this workout routine which encompasses Cardio workouts like High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), you will be able to also improve your stamina and keep your weight in check after several sessions. Think of it as a fun way to lose weight!

Psychologically

It’s been proven that exercising will make you happier in general, as explained in the above few paragraphs. With more regular and continuous workouts carried out, one will also feel more confident as it improves self-esteem. This allows for a more positive mindset and prevents a buildup of negative emotions in the system. With greater self-confidence, it uplifts mood and helps to make one feel a sense of happiness and contentment.

How to tell if I need Personal Training

Contemplating if you require a Personal Trainer? Unsure if you’re able to do exercises on your own without any prior experience or proper guidance? If this is you, then you may want to consider Personal Training under the guidance of an experienced, certified fitness instructor.

Lack of discipline

If you’re someone who needs greater accountability in your fitness routine, then Personal Training Sessions may work for you! They’re able to customise workout plans according to which part of the body you wish to work on, so you won’t have to go through the hassle of researching for new exercises every time to make yourself motivated to exercise.

Lack of experience

Oftentimes, the lack of experience makes it difficult for a fitness newbie to start exercising. Past exercise related injuries

If you’ve had injuries in the past caused about by exercising or participation in other sports activities, then it’s better to seek a Personal Trainer to ensure that you won’t exacerbate the old wound injury when exercising on your own. How to feel full with less food

Ever tried to cut down on your weight by reducing food portions, only for it to turn out unsuccessful? Today’s blogpost aims to provide you with tips on how to feel full with less food. Read on to find out more!

Add more Vegetables to your diet

Did you know that vegetables are low in calories and high in fibre, water content, nutrients, vitamins and minerals, which can help you cut down weight more successfully? This means that you can eat more vegetables and feel fuller doing so, all while keeping your calories in check due to their low calories density nature. Additionally, their high fibre content aids in digestion and overall intestinal health, which helps in your weight loss journey.

Pump up on Protein

It has been scientifically proven that protein reduces the feeling of fullness even more so than carbs or fat. Moreover, the wide variety of protein available ensures that you’ll never get bored of it’s consumption since it can be found in poultry like chicken breast, dairy, seafood, fish and even greek yoghurt! Include protein in your meals and add lesser rice, noodles or carbohydrates to go with it so you’ll definitely feel fuller while consuming less.

Drink plenty of water

We’ve probably come across this saying countless times, but it’s not a meaningless one! Drinking (not chugging excessively) water helps to make our intestines feel fuller, and ensures that we don’t go overboard with eating. Try this by drinking 200ml of water before starting your meals, especially lunch and dinner. This reduces the tendency of excessive eating while simultaneously making us feel fuller even though we technically consume lesser food during mealtimes.

Eat Slower

Are you someone who lunges out during lunch and dinner, ravenously eating fast and finishing them in just a few minutes? If so, then eat slower to feel fuller! It takes time for your stomach to signal to your brain that you’re eating, so when you gulp your food down, you tend to overeat and continue past your limit, which leads to weight gain. By allowing yourself to eat past a 20 minute time frame, your hunger will then be quenched and you’ll tend to stop before reaching your limit.

Ways to lose body fat #2

In our blogpost on Wednesday, we mentioned about the different ways you can consider to lose body fat, which are catching up on sleep, consuming more of pro-biotics and less of alcohol and sweetened drinks respectively. Today, we’ll be bringing out three more methods that you can consider, so read ahead to find out more!

Consume more good fats

Did you know that there are such terms known as good and bad fat? Essentially, good fat helps us to lose weight as it slows down digestion and allows us to feel fuller after a meal, whereas bad trans fats raises “bad” cholesterol and lowers “good” cholesterol in our body. Good fat can be found in food like avocadoes, olive oil, fish and nuts, so do remember to consume more of such foods! Also, learn to avoid trans fat food sources like fried foods, margarine and processed food.

Fill up on Fiber

Fiber is actually an important food source since it takes longer to digest compared to sugars, carbohydrates and protein. Additionally, scientific research conducted in the past has proven that fiber helps to promote gut health and lower the risk of certain cancers as well as diabetes. Dietary sources can be found in meals like oats, fruits and beans, so up your fiber intake today! Lastly, fiber also helps to remove stubborn belly fat, which can help to lower risks or cardiovascular diseases and type 2 diabetes.

Strength Training

Other than controlling and regulating your diet like the aforementioned points above, it’s also important to pursue an active lifestyle through engaging in health and fitness related exercises, with strength training being one of them. Picking up weights in the gym will allow you to build up more lean muscle mass while reducing fat mass at the same time – this ensures that you’ll get toned at a faster rate! Doing strength training exercises twice a week can also help to build major muscle groups like your hips, back, chest, arms, shoulders and et cetera.

More about METCON

If you’re new to fitness, you may not heard of the term METCON before. If that’s the case, then today’s article is just right for you! Read on to find out more about METCON as well as how it functions to benefit your body post-workout.

What is METCON?

METCON, also known as Metabolic Conditioning, is a combination of cardio and strength training exercises with rest intervals in between each workout. The aim is to utilize an individual’s ability to retain and use up energy while simultaneously burning calories throughout the workout. A METCON workout ranges from cardio exercises to circuit format strength training moves involving kettlebells, dumbbells and medicine balls.

Overarching use of METCON

METCON is used to increase your heart rate and utilise your body’s different energy pathways, including the phosphagen, glycolytic and aerobic pathways. The high intensity exercises delivered during the entire workout also allows for your basal metabolic rates (BMR) to increase for even up to 48 hours post-workout! This upgraded energy efficiency system allows for you to build endurance, tone up muscles and improve stamina as well, so in essence, you’ll get to reap multiple benefits just by frequently completing these types of workout!

Time saving

Another vital point to note about METCON workouts are their efficiency in not just utilisng energy systems in our body, but also in terms of overall duration required to complete a single session. Research has shown that a METCON session can burn 500 to 800 calories, which is a significant amount, especially for those who want to lose weight and burn fat fast!

If you’re interested in finding out more about our METCON classes offered at our women only gym, feel free to contact us or check out our social media posts via the details listed down below!
